What a free Hostcation preview is, and what happens after you say yes
For UK holiday-let owners · Updated July 2026
If someone has just told you they can build you a free preview of your own direct booking site, it is completely normal to want to know what you are actually agreeing to before you say yes. Is it really free? Do you need to hand over a card? What happens on the call people mention, and what if you look at it and decide it is not for you?
This page answers all of that plainly, with nothing glossed over. No invented statistics, no pressure tactics – just what a Hostcation preview is, what it is built from, what the optional call covers, and the exact point (if any) a card comes into it.
The preview itself: free to look at, built from what you already have
Your preview is a working direct booking site for your property, built from the photos and details you already use to list it. Nothing is invented and nothing is guessed at – if a detail is missing, it stays missing rather than being made up. It is there for you to look at, share with a partner or co-host, and take your time over.
- No card, no sign-up to view it. You get sent a link (and sometimes a password), you open it, that is the whole ask.
- Built from your own listing.Your photos, your property description, your amenities – the same ones you already use on the platforms.
- No obligation attached. Looking at it does not start anything, sign you up to anything, or commit you to a call.
If you would rather understand how direct bookings work before you look at a preview at all, our guide to taking direct bookings for your holiday let covers the basics: what a direct site actually does, how calendar sync stops double-bookings, and how card payments work.
What the optional 15-minute call is (and is not)
Once you have had a proper look at your preview, the natural next question is usually “what would it actually take to go live?” That is what the call is for, and it is entirely optional – plenty of hosts are happy over email instead, or take a few days to think it over first.
It is a working session, not a pitch. On it, we:
- Walk through your preview together and answer any questions about how it works.
- If you want to go ahead, connect Stripeso guest payments land straight in your own bank account – you are shown exactly how this works, and we never sit in the middle of your money.
- Connect your calendar (iCal) to the platforms you already list on, so a direct booking blocks the same dates everywhere and nothing double-books.
- Do one small test booking together so you see a date block and a payment land before we finish the call.
Most hosts who go ahead are set up to take a direct booking by the end of the call. If you decide partway through that it is not for you, that is completely fine – nothing is charged and nothing is locked in.
The one moment a card comes into it
Looking at your preview never asks for a card. Being on the call never asks for a card. A card is only needed at one specific point: if you decide to go ahead and start the 14-day free trial so you can take live bookings on your own site.
Even then, you are not charged during the 14 days. You can cancel any time before day 14 ends and you will not be charged anything. If you carry on past the trial, it is £10 a month per property, billed annually (£15 a month if you would rather pay monthly), with 0% booking commissionfrom us – you keep the full booking. The only deduction on any payment is the standard card-processing fee (Stripe, about 1.5% + 20p per UK card payment), the same fee that applies to any card payment anywhere, never an extra cut to us.
Curious what moving your repeat and word-of-mouth bookings direct could actually be worth on your own numbers, before you decide anything? Our savings calculator works it out from your own booking figures, also for free and with no card needed.
Prefer to just get started? You do not have to wait for us
Some hosts know after one look that they want their own site, and would rather get going than wait for a call. You can. Your 14-day free trial can be started by you, in your own time, from the start page– it walks you through connecting Stripe and your calendar at your own pace, with the call there only if you want a hand, never as a gate you have to pass first.
A card is needed to start the trial so you can take live bookings, and you can cancel any time before day 14 ends without being charged. Whether you start it yourself or book the call first is entirely up to you.
Your next step
There is no pressure and no clock running. Take your time with the preview, run your own numbers on the calculator if that is useful, and only book the call – or start a trial – when you are ready to. Nothing moves forward without you choosing it.
Already seen your preview? See what it could be worth
Run your own booking numbers on the savings calculator, free and with no card needed, then start a 14-day free trial when you're ready. A card is needed to start the trial, and you can cancel any time before it ends, so you won't be charged.
